How to Pixelate Any Image
Convert a photo or high-res illustration into clean pixel art with the pixelate tool — controlling resolution, colors and crispness.
Sometimes the fastest path to pixel art is to generate a detailed image and then pixelate it. Voidless's pixelate tool downsamples an image into a crisp, palette-limited sprite.
When to pixelate
- You generated with a detailed model (like Flux) and want a pixel-art version.
- You have existing artwork or a photo to convert.
- You want a specific pixel resolution or a reduced palette.
Step 1 — Bring in your image
Open the Pixelate tool and upload an image or pass one in from your library.
Step 2 — Set the target resolution
Choose how many pixels wide/tall the output should be. Lower values = chunkier, more retro; higher values = more detail retained. Match this to your game's tile/sprite size so the result drops in cleanly.
Step 3 — Control the palette
Reducing the number of colors is what makes an image read as true pixel art. Fewer colors = a cohesive, retro look; more colors = closer to the original. If your game uses a fixed palette, aim for it here.
Step 4 — Keep edges crisp
Pixel art should have hard edges, not soft/anti-aliased ones. The tool downsamples with nearest-neighbor logic so pixels stay square and sharp. If your source is very soft, a lower target resolution helps enforce clean blocks.
Step 5 — Clean up
After pixelating, small manual touch-ups pay off: fix a stray pixel, tidy the silhouette, or unify a color. The image editor is handy here.
